Pandit Sudhindra Bhaumik and his disciple, Priya Purushothaman, will speak about and demonstrate the prominent features of the Agra gharana gayaki. As a performance style, it is known for its robust nom-tom alap, dynamic engagement with laya, close connection to the bandish and kavya, and strict adherence to raag structure. The gharana also has a tradition of composition, comprising a lineage of rachnakars who created iconic compositions sung across all gharanas. This interactive session will share insights into the multiple aesthetic areas that converge to create interpretations of the Agra gayaki.
